Tributes for

Brackett, Shirley L.

Brackett, Shirley L., passed away of natural causes in her Fullerton home on December 22, 2012 after several years of declining health. She was eighty-four years old. Shirley was born in Lynwood, California on April 23, 1928, the youngest child of William A. Sr. and Helen Spencer. The family moved to Fullerton when she was a small child and Shirley attended Maple Elementary School, Wilshire Junior High and Fullerton High School. As a high school student working for Pacific Bell during World War II, she was chosen as the operator to connect a military call of the highest priority coming through the local switchboard. Shirley later worked at Kirkhill Rubber in Brea, retiring after thirty-five years of service. Shirley loved traveling and in her later years was able to pursue this passion, vacationing in New England, Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest and Tennessee as well as numerous trips within California and Nevada. She was an avid reader, never without a book. Shirley cared for her mother and all of her family, taking great delight in planning and carrying out projects and activities with her grandchildren. She is terribly missed. Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Sue Kurvink, Linda Symonds and Joyce Gill as well as four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A service celebrating Shirley's life will be held on January 26, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Tustin, 1201 Irvine Blvd., Tustin, CA 92780, reception following. Her ashes will be scattered in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Shirley's name to the Fullerton First United Methodist Church, the Fullerton Public Library or a charity of your choice .
