Tributes for

Plumleigh, Elizabeth Anne

Send a Note

Elizabeth Anne Plumleigh of Santa Ana, CA passed away on January 19, 2014, at the age of 87. Affectionately known by all as "Betty," she was extremely proud of her farming heritage, as the Gisler and Callens families sowed the seeds that would flourish into the urban area of Orange County that exists today.

Betty attended Immaculate Heart College, and it was during that time she met her loving husband, Robert "Bob" Plumleigh. Betty worked for 26 years in Orange County Unified School district teaching Junior High School English. While she always thought obtaining her Master’s Degree in Liberal Arts from University of Southern California in 1984 was her crowning moment, nothing made her more proud than being the mother of her only and late daughter, Karen Louise Plumleigh Cortney. She also beamed with pride at being a member of the Alpha Gamma sorority as well as USC’s Widney Society, Town & Gown, and Chairman-level member of the USC Associates.

Betty will be remembered for her bright eyes, big smile, constant giggle, feisty spirit, loves for travel and for sparkle, passion for fine wine and champagne, and loyal support to USC, especially the USC Song Girls and Spirit Leaders.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Marie Callens Gisler, brother Harold Gisler, and daughter Karen Louise Cortney. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 62 years, Robert Elwood Plumleigh; son-in-law, David Cortney; grandchildren Majors John and Sharon Cortney (USAF), Bryan and Katelin Cortney, Claire Marie Cortney, Celene Cortney; great-grandson Augustine William Cortney, and the many friends whose lives she touched.

The Vigil will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Brown Colonial Chapel in Santa Ana. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 27th 2014, at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange.
