Murray, Billie Lee. Billie Lee Murray (84) A resident of Whittier for almost 60 years, Mrs. Murray died August 15, 2011 at PIH (Dove) House in Whittier. Mrs. Murray was born March 3, 1927 in Fort Worth, Texas. While still a child her family moved to Los Angeles. She attended Hollywood High School and married Arlo Murray after WWII. She moved with her family to Whittier in 1951 to a house on Dalman St. Billie was a school bus driver, and later a teaching assistant for special needs children at East Whittier School. She became an active member of the Emblem Club, a sister organization of the Elks Club that her husband Arlo belonged to, and served the club in many capacities for over 50 years. She is survived by her son Bob, grandson Robert Jr. and wife Deirdre, nieces Karren Brooks of Bend, Oregon and Kathy Salerno of Claremont; Debbie Curry of Whittier, nephews Michael Sheller of Thousand Oaks, Brad Reeder of Whittier, and Phil Murray of Monterey. She was preceded in death by daughter Nancy Lee Meissel who died in 2003, and husband Arlo who died in 2010. Viewing will be at Rose Hills Monday evening August 22, from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. Chapel services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in Memorial Chapel at Rose Hills Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the Whittier Elks Lodge, 13620 Whittier Blvd.
