Greenhalgh, James W.

James W. Greenhalgh, age 74, died at his Newcastle home, on Friday July 6, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 21, 1938, in Bradenton Florida to the late Frank and Alma Greenhalgh. He graduated from Sarasota High School in 1956. Upon graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Firedrake as a machinist mate. After his discharge in 1960 he joined the US Navy Reserves where he retired in 1991 as a Chief Machinist's Mate.
On August 2, 1958, he married Esther McKinsey, in Reno Nevada, after a 6 week courtship, and together they had 3 children. In 1960 he began a 33 year career with PB&E in the hydro department. He moved to Auburn in 1972 where he became foreman at Halsey and Wise Powerhouses. He ended his career as a hydro specialist at the PG&E San Francisco headquarters.
Jim enjoyed fishing, golfing, and reading. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan since the team originated in Oakland.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Esther, daughter Lari Andrews, Sacramento, son Michael (Kim) Greenhalgh, Oak Harbor Washington, and daughter Julie (Brian) Wendling, Castaic California, seven grandchildren: Kody, Megan, Sarah, Brian, Emily, Alyssa, and Addison, brother Clifford and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his brother Frank.
A memorial service will be held at Lassila Funeral Chapel in Auburn on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 12 p.m. A reception will follow onsite. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity.
