Tributes for

Haskin, Vivanne S.

Haskin, Vivanne S., born in Long Beach August 1, 1927 and died July 8, 2011 at her residence in Garden Grove. She lived a long life of 83 years and died peacefully with family and friends at her bedside. She was a remarkable woman who had to overcome many obstacles to become a teacher, her hearts desire. She pursued her education, first at Long Beach City College, and then she went to Long Beach State University and received both a BA and a Masters degree. She did her student teaching in Long Beach. She then began her teaching career at Peter's Jr. High in Orange County and went on to Los Amigos High School from the first day it opened up until the time that she retired. She taught for a total of 44 years. She was still in contact with several of her past students up until the time of her death. After retirement, she volunteered at both the Garden Grove Assistance League and the Library. She was an avid reader, who up until a couple of months prior to her death read a book a day. She was always sure to donate her books to the Library. She was a source of pride and achievement to her family, friends, and students. She showed that no matter what the obstacle, if you had a goal and were willing to work hard, you could do whatever you wanted to. Vivianne is survived by her daughter Carol Haythornthwaite (Peter) of New Zealand, her daughter Christine Correa of Garden Grove, son Parry Haskin (Barbara) of Oroville, and predeceased daughter Wendy Pittman (Don) of Anaheim. Vivianne had six grand -children and six great grand- children with one on the way at the time of her death. She will be missed and remembered by many. Per her request, there will be no service and no flowers. A donation to the ASPCA would be in keeping with her wishes.
