Hartwell, James Victor
James Victor Hartwell, 84, of Newport Beach, California, passed away on December 15, 2015 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jim was born in Long Beach, California on January 6th, 1931 to Vic and Evelyn Hartwell. He graduated high school at St. Anthony's High School and then went to work for his father delivering pies to local restaurants where he met his future wife, Lois Warner.
Jim served in the US Coast Guard in Seattle, Washington. After his service, Jim and Lois settled in Southern California where they raised their family of four children.
Jim was a successful business owner of several service stations in Long Beach and Seal Beach, California. He retired in 1991 and moved to Balboa Island to his long time family home.
Jim was a devoted family man. He was an airplane pilot and boat captain. He enjoyed sailing, reading, attending daily mass, playing the ukulele with a group, golf, travel and his friends on Balboa Island.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Lois; his four children, Scott, Brad, Lisa Severijn, Charley; sister, Patricia Beckwith; as well as 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on January 6th, 2016 at St. John Vianney Chapel on Balboa Island. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society .
