Tributes for

Gowdy, Terry R.

Gowdy, Terry R.
Beloved Son, Brother and Friend
Terry R. Gowdy died unexpectedly at his home in Laguna Niguel, California, January 7, 2018. He was born in Wellsville, New York on August 15, 1953 to Ralph and Virginia Gowdy.
Terry graduated from Olean high School in 1971. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1975, and worked as an electronics tech on jet aircrafts. Terry did a four year tour, and received an honorable discharge in 1979. He went to college at Cal State Long Beach in Long Beach, California, and received a BS degree in Business Finance in 1985. He worked at McDonnell Douglas/Boeing Aircraft in Long Beach from 1982 - 1988 while still attending college, and after graduation. He was a final assembly electrical inspector on many jet aircraft including the C17 Transport. He worked as a postal carrier in Long Beach, CA for 20 years retiring in 2010.
Terry was kind, generous and compassionate. He loved living in California, driving his sports cars, his many friends, and his precious dog, Lily. The family wishes to thank those in the Laguna Niguel and Huntington Beach communities for their love and support.
Friendship was very important to Terry. The family is very grateful to two of his good friends, Tom Laluk (Beth) and Juliet Sandig. Tom had been his best friend since the age of four. Tommy and Terry grew up together in Olean, New York, graduated from high school, went into the military, and eventually both ended up living in California within a few miles of one another. Julie was his mother's caregiver, and promised his mom she "would always look after Terry". Terry was like a brother to her. Both Tom and Julie were always there for him. The family extends our sincere appreciation to both of them for all that they did.
Terry is survived by his sister, Nancy Hadbavny (Dick); niece, Shonda Cleckley; and his grandniece, Tayana Davis.
Terry was predeceased by his parents, Ralph D. and Virginia Marie Gowdy; his niece, Angel Gowdy; and his beloved dog, Lucy. His sister, Sheila Wells died March 10, 2018. Terry was a good son, a good brother, and a good friend. Our hearts are broken. He will be greatly missed, always remembered, and loved forever. May his sweet, kind, gentle soul rest in peace.
Arrangements are pending. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
