Tributes for

Cottrell, Richard J.

Richard John Cottrell passed away on June 10, 2016 with his brother Patrick by his side. Born September 20, 1954, he was a devoted son to the late Richard and Anne Cottrell. A native San Franciscan he attended St. Emydius Elementary School, Archbishop Riordan High School and The University of San Francisco.
After his Father's death, Richard took over the management of Cottrell Moving and Storage. He continued to work until his retirement in 2014. But the truth is Richie never really retired. You would often see him around San Francisco with his red truck helping someone in need.
Richard was raised among a large Irish Catholic family which included; his brother Patrick Cottrell, sister Brigid Baca, sister-in-law Colleen Coakley, nieces Angela Seminario and Amie Gutierrez, nephew Michael Baca. He leaves behind 11 cherished great nieces and nephews. His faithful cousin Monsignor Edward McTaggart and loyal house guests Jordan Baca Delapaz and Christian Camacho. Richard will be missed by his employees Richard Finn, Brad Gray, Bob Maher, Jeremiah and James Hallisy.
As a huge fan of the 49ers all the way back to the Kezar Stadium days. Richard was often in attendance with his cousins by his side. He enjoyed his summers in Boyes Hot Springs, Sonoma playing pedro. He was a member of the San Francisco Olympic Club and United Irish Cultural Center, and a life-long parishioner of St. Emydius Church.
He has gone no further from us than to God, and God is very near. Rest in Peace Dear Richie until we meet again.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held Tuesday, June 21st at 11:00 am St Emydius Church, Ashton & DeMontefort Avenues, San Francisco with reception to follow. Private committal held at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Priests Retirement Fund, Archdiocese of San Francisco, One Peter Yorke Way, San Francisco, CA 94109 or Archbishop Riordan High School, 175 Phelan Ave., San Francisco, CA 94112.
