Castilleja Sr., Gilbert "Gibby"

Gilbert "Gibby" Castilleja Sr. 1948-2011 Gilbert "Gibby" Castilleja Sr., 63, sadly, was taken from our lives way too soon. He busted down the doors to heaven at 1:05 am on September 16, 2011 in Austin, TX. He devoted his life to raising his family with extreme unconditional love and unwavering support. Gilbert was born and raised in Austin, Texas and played trumpet in the band while playing middle linebacker at Johnston High School. He completed the GED program while serving his country. He served in the US Army 101st Screaming Eagles Airborne Division in the Vietnam war. After honorable service in the military, he served 34 years with US Postal Service up-hill both ways in the snow with no shoes. Standing at the top of the stairway to heaven were his mom Eloisa Tijerina Castilleja, his dad Jose Angel Castilleja and his sister Ernestina Larkin. Learning to live without him are his son Gilbert, Nancy and the girls, his son Nepolian, Jessica and the boys and his daughter Concep, Robert and the kids. His ex-wife Jane Perez. His brothers & sisters Geronimo, Jose Jr, Ernesto, Frances and Lorenzo. A special thank you to the caring staff of House Call Doctors, St. David's North and South, the wonderful staff at Hospice Austin and unbelievable staff at Hospice Austin's Christopher House. Turn out the lights, the party's over. Recitation of Holy Rosary 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 20th at the Mission Funeral Home Serenity Chapel 6204 South First Street. (South). Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 21st at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church 1206 E. 9th Street. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice Austin's Christopher House in his name.
