Via, Valerie Claire (Kitting), went to be with the Lord on June 8, 2011. She passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm at home. A strong Christian woman, she was a devoted homemaker, mother and educator. Born on May 8, 1950 in Blind River, Ontario, Canada, Valerie was the daughter of Sheila M. (Skerten) Kitting of London, England and Walter L. Kitting of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Valerie lived in Canada and Toledo, Ohio, before moving to southern California, where she graduated as Salutatorian from Los Altos High School, Hacienda Heights, CA in 1968. She graduated Cum Laude from UC Irvine with a degree in Education in 1972. On July 10, 1976, Valerie married the love of her life, Paul Alexander Via, and they were blessed with a daughter, Jeanette (Jette) Marie, in 1979, and a son, Bryan Alexander, in 1981. Committed to inspiring and developing children's minds, Valerie was an elementary school teacher in the Orange Unified School District for eight years. After leaving Orange, Valerie joined Released Time Christian Education to serve as the director. She dedicated more than 20 years of service to Released Time, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing God's word with elementary school children. Valerie was predeceased by her father, Walter Kitting in 1993; her brother, Ronald Kitting in 2010; and her beloved husband of 34 years, Paul Via, in 2010. Valerie will be greatly missed. She is survived by her mother, Sheila M. Kitting, of Oceanside, California; brothers, Christopher L. Kitting of Hayward, California, and Timothy J. Kitting of Pacific Grove, California (Maureen Kitting); daughter, Jette Via of North Tustin, California; and son, Bryan Via of San Diego, California. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, 3800 South Fairview, Santa Ana, California at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valerie's memory to Released Time Education, P.O. Box 2935, Orange, California, 92859-0935.
