Tributes for

Conover, Thomas Arthur

Tom passed away February 18, 2013 after a short illness. Tom was a descendant of the Hanrahan family who came to the Sacramento area in 1851 and soon established themselves as builders. The Conover family arrived in the 1920's from San Francisco to manage Hale Brothers. Tom was born November 9, 1936 at Sutter General Hospital to Helen Hanrahan and Arthur Conover. He attended St. Francis Elementary, Christian Brothers, and Sacramento High School (1954). He graduated from University of California, Berkeley (1959). He served in the U.S. Marine Corp, returning to Sacramento to begin an extensive career in the insurance field, retiring in 2002.

Tom had a profound interest in preserving our heritage. He enjoyed 30 years as a board member of the California Heritage Council, thus providing him with the opportunity to often visit a favorite city, San Francisco. He was a member of the Sacramento Pioneer Society, and served as president of the Sacramento Historical Society and Sacramento Kiwanis. Tom was an avid golfer, beginning with the Sacramento High School golf team. He continued to score well through 2012. He worked many years with Sacramento High Key Club, encouraging members to volunteer for handicapped dances, picnics and fish derbies. Tom especially enjoyed traveling to almost any destination. The family gatherings at the Wawona Hotel in the summer and New Orleans in the spring were a must. He remained a loyal Cal Bears fan.

Tom is survived bv his wife, Janet Daggs Conover; his daughters, Anne Daggs Conover, and Helen Conover Gomez (Richard); his granddaughter, Nicole Gomez; cousin, Michael Mary Maunsell (Ft. Collins,CO); in-laws, Sharon and Raymond Anderegg, Andra Munson, and Douglas Daggs; nieces and a nephew.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his aunt Marian Hanrahan, Betty Bruni, and uncle Thomas 'Bud' Hanrahan.
