Thomas Blair Umphreys
A long time resident of Marin County, passed away on October 15th after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Tom was born on Christmas Eve in 1929 in San Francisco. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in San Francisco and shortly after graduation; he spent two years in the Navy stationed in San Diego. He joined his father, Jack Umphreys, as a partner at Umphreys Music Company in San Francisco, where for over 20 years he sold, installed and serviced vending machines and jukeboxes all throughout San Francisco. Tom knew San Francisco as well as anyone and loved the City. As his family grew, Tom moved them to the suburbs of Marin County. For years, Tom was very much involved with the athletic league at Terra Linda High School, which all four of his children had attended by taking pictures of the players and their fans during the sports events. Tom eventually sold his company to Glenn-Rowe Vending Company where he continued to work for several years before retiring to Petaluma. Tom is survived by his wife, Martha Romero; four children; Denny, Steve, Cindy, Tom; two step children; Michael and John Orozco and 11 grand kids; Heather, Jasmine, Denny Jr, Colin, Taylor, Dustin, Brian, Matt, Morgan, Bradley, Elena, 4 great grand children and niece, Victoria. His family and friends will deeply miss him as he was a remarkable father, advisor and a wonderful friend. Donations may be made to the "Make a Wish" at http://sf.wish.org/.
