Mejia, Thamar D.,
Age 62, of West Sacramento, passed away March 3, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family after a valiant five year battle with cancer.
She was born November 1, 1950 in Trinidad, Bolivia and called the Sacramento area her home for 45 years.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ruben M. Mejia; three children, Ruben, Fabrizio (Layla) and Mayra Mejia-Sexton (Michael) and step-grandson, Michael.
Thamar loved art, travel, collecting treasures, cooking, gardening, piano, solving mysteries, music, telenovelas, laughter and spending quality time with loved ones. In addition to being a strong matriarchal role-model to many, she dedicated her life to social justice through her 20 plus years with SEIU Local 22 and the Justice for Janitors Campaign.
She was truly one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Visitation hours, Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with Vigil services at 7:00 P.M. at RIVER CITIES FUNERAL CHAPEL, 910 Soule St., West Sacramento. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Fri. March 8, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Chapel on the grounds of St. Mary's Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave. Sac., CA.
