Smith, Sandra L. (Sandy) peacefully passed away on December 24, 2011. She was preceded in death by her father Fred Smith and her sister Karen Armenta. Her mother Jerry Smith died shortly after her on January 1, 2012. She is survived by her sister Susan Smith and her foster son Joseph Madrigal. Sandy was a passionate, talented and dedicated educator who touched and enhanced countless lives. Rocket launches, egg drop contests, solar cooker creations, and/or high interest reading groups were a few of the many activities that she did to engage her students (whom she always believed in 100%) in learning. Many were fortunate throughout her life to call her teacher, principal, collaborator and friend throughout Arizona, New Mexico and Cairo, Egypt. Her positive attitude, kindness and compassion (she always believed that she could make the world a better place) will be missed by her family, friends and students. In lieu of flowers Sandy asked that people perform a random act of kindness to a stranger in memory of her.
