Tributes for

Sittig, Hildegard D.

Sittig, Hildegard D., 88, passed away September 11, 2011 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois following the memorial service of her son, Bill, who predeceased her on August 27, 2011. Hildie, a resident of California since 1977, was the wife of Al Sittig (deceased); mother of Karin Popkin (Ed), Bill Sittig (Carol), Marnie Pennington (Chuck) and Dick Sittig (Diane); and sister of Peter Dulken.

Born in Germany in 1922, Hildie (nee Dulken), her parents, and her three siblings emigrated to the United States in 1930. She attended Miss Beard's School in New Jersey, graduated from Mt Holyoke College in Massachusetts and married Al Sittig in 1946, sharing 44 years of marriage. Hildie received her Masters Degree in Education from the Univ. of Illinois, taught German for 17 years at Homewood-Flossmoor High school in Illinois, then moved west with her husband in 1977 where she began her 19 year real estate career with Seven Gables in Santa Ana. Hildie, a recent two year resident of her beloved Morningside Retirement Community, volunteered for 7 years at St Joseph's hospital, was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian's (Santa Ana) summer choir, enjoyed writing poetry, tap dancing and harmonica playing. In addition, she found great joy in cruising and traveling around the world. Her effervescence and joy of living will be missed. A Memorial Open House will be held January 7, 2012 from noon to 3:00 p.m. in the Newport Room at The Pelican Hills Resort in Newport Beach, California, with a short service planned for 1:00 p.m. In honor of Hildie, her family suggests you take a friend out for an ice cream cone.
