A life-long resident of Orange, CA, he was a veteran of WW II, serving as a paratrooper with service in the Philippines. Married on Christmas Eve, 1950, he took every opportunity to request 'our song' ("Harbor Lights") from any band or group that could play the song on vacations with his wife, Julia. It was the only song he would attempt to dance. He retired from the Orange County Probation Department in 1987, after almost 35 years as a counselor and supervisor. He remembered the five years he supervised the Albert Sitton Home as a high-point, before it evolved into the Orangewood Children's Home. He was known for endless coffee cups, telling stories, a hearty laugh and driving various eclectic vehicles over the years. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, taking many pictures of their far-off destinations. At home, he enjoyed watching movies, reading and introducing his grandchildren to the city's many parks.
