Prager, Peter A.

Funeral services were held for Peter Prager, Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at St. Helena Catholic Church in St. Helena, CA. His death occurred at the Meadows Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 in Napa, CA. Pete was 102 years old.

The youngest son of Emma Klatt and Joseph Prager was born March 31, 1909 and grew up in Leeds, Iowa.

In 1929 Pete and his wife Minnetta McDonald moved to Southern California with the promise of a new job. When they arrived the job was unavailable. Sometime after, he and Minnetta were hired at the Correctional Home for Boys in Whittier, CA.

Pete served in the Pacific during World War II as a Sergeant in the infantry and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.

Long time residents of Santa Ana, Pete founded Prager Insurance Agency and later formed a partnership with his only child, son Jim - "Prager and Son Insurance Agency".

After his wife of 69 years, Minnetta died in 1998, Pete moved to the Napa Valley, joining his son and family in St. Helena.

Survivors include his son, Jim Prager of St. Helena; daughter-in-law, Imogene; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews. His wife, Minnetta; four brothers; and one sister preceded him in death.

Interment will be held in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, CA on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11:30 am with a reception to follow.
