Mineau, Lion Willet

Leon Willet Mineau April 9, 1920 - Oct. 27, 2011 Resident of Fremont Lee was born in Hillsboro, Oregon on April 9, 1920 to William and Anna Mineau. When he was four the family moved to Coos Bay. He attended St. Matthew's School and Marshfield High School. Upon graduation he moved to San Francisco. He served five years in the Navy during World War II, rising to the rank of Chief Yeoman. Stationed in the Pacific he participated in five landings. After the war he returned to San Francisco and went to work for Libby Foods. The frozen food industry was in its infancy and Lee became head of Libby's Frozen Foods Division in the Western States. When he was promoted to a position in Chicago he parted company with Libby-refusing to leave San Francisco. He and his wife ran an answering service for many years and he embarked on a career as a travel agent. He became very active with athletics at the University of San Francisco and for many years he organized the basketball trips for the university's Boosters Club. Lee was a member of the USF Green and Gold Club and the Sixth Man Club, the Saint Joseph's Men's Club, SIRS, Navy Plank Owners, the Bastille Group and Better Breathers. He was a long time volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul and Washington Hospital. He was preceded in death by his sister, Esther and brothers Roy, Kenneth and Richard. He is survived by his wife, Helen and his brother, William of Beaverton, Oregon. Lee was step-father and great pal to Christopher Richards (Nancy), Diane Hall (Dale Murray), Sherman Hall (Kim), Spencer Hall (Vickie), Leslie Hassett (Patrick), Christine Winkler (Norman). He was the loving and devoted Grandpa Lee to Andrea and Zoe Richards, Kathryn, Maureen and Loretta Murray, and Maria, Bridgette, and Patrick Hassett. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. A vigil service will be held at Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, in Fremont on Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:00pm. A memorial mass will be celebrated at Saint Joseph's Church in Fremont on Thursday November 3rd at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lee's memory may be made to the University of San Francisco Men's Basketball team, Sister John Marie's Pantry or Saint Vincent de Paul.
