Tributes for

Maxey, Virginia Miller

Maxey, Virginia Miller, born 6/7/24 in Cambridge, MA, the first child of Edna Murray and Joseph Scott, died 2/13/12 in San Clemente, CA. She graduated from Somerville H.S. and briefly attended Boston University. Virginia Scott met Robert Miller while they were attending radio classes at M.I.T., and in 1947 they married in Somerville, MA. Four daughters followed; in 1953 the family relocated to California, where they settled in Orange. Within 10 years four more daughters arrived. Virginia instilled in her girls a strong work ethic and a deep respect for faith, education, and self-sufficiency. Some time after Robert passed away in 1973, Virginia met and married Joseph Maxey. The Miller family was enriched by Joe's loving guidance and by the addition of his adult children to their family. Virginia soon returned to school to complete her A.A. in Accounting. Following a career as a bookkeeper she turned to tax work, became an enrolled agent, and enjoyed a thriving tax business until retirement. After Joe's death in 1998, she continued to live in the home they had shared until moving into assisted living. As she gradually began to need more care, Virginia moved to Avondale Board and Care near her daughter Clare's San Clemente home.

Virginia is survived by her devoted daughters and sons-in-law: Diane Miller, Clare (Pete) Boisineau, Susan (Charles) Rader, Virginia (David) Johns, Mary (Steve) Mapes, Catherine (Paul) Morrow, Ruth (Mike) Tidball and Sharon Miller. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Lynne and Dawn Boisineau, Robert Rader, Sarah Groome Carrillo, William and Daniel Johns, Nathan Tidball, and 6 great-grandchildren: Duncan, Sabina and Tristan Boisineau, Giselle Acosta, and Isabella and Daniella Carrillo. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Parent, and by her step-son, George Maxey. She is also survived by her sister, Joan (Gus) Govoni, 4 step-children, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, 2/16 at Farrara Colonial Mortuary in Orange, and the funeral Mass at 10 am on Friday, 2/17 at St. Norbert Catholic Church in Orange. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
