Carter, Mary S.
A Sacramento native, 82, died peacefully at home with her family at her bedside on October 4, 2013. An avid reader, gardener, theater and opera aficionado, survived by loving husband of 57 years, Jack, son Jerald (Mei), daughters Kathleen Nishimura (Bo), Jeannine Chia (Edward), grandchildren Jonathan and Jessica Carter, sisters-in-law Lola and Patricia Mejia, Judy McCarter (Kim) and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Anacleto Mejia and Josefa Leal, and brothers, Felix and Paul Mejia.
Mary was a forerunner and inspiration because she balanced her career with being a devoted wife and mother. She retired after 33 years as Chief Fiscal Budget Officer for the State of California and began her career at Cal-Western Insurance. Mary received great fulfillment from volunteer work with Court Appointed Special Advocates and Shriner's Children's Hospital. Friends are welcome for visitation on Monday, October 14 from 5:00-7:00 PM and Rosary at 7:00 PM at Klumpp's Chapel, 2691 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, October 15 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Church, 660 Florin Road. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave.
