Martel, Robert

Robert W. Martel, 89, passed away peacefully at home on December 25, 2015, in Tustin, CA. He was born on May 13th to William and Maebelle Martel in Webster, MA.

Robert led a happy, full life. He attended Clark University in Worcester, MA where he earned a BS in Chemistry. He then attended graduate school at Brown University in Providence, RI where he earned his doctorate in Chemistry.

Robert entered the U.S. Army on October 29, 1944. He served in Germany during World War II. He was honored by the American Legion in 2014 for being a continuous supporter and member for 60 years.

He began work for New Jersey Zinc as a Chemist in 1954. He later received five patents while working at Xerox in Rochester, NY. He then achieved his dream of owning his own company in 1972 when he opened Fastway Printing Co. in Orange, CA.

Robert married Marguerite Scannell in 1952 in Worcester, MA. They were happily married for 63 years. Robert was a member of Holy Family Church.

Robert was preceded in death by his two siblings: Lucille Davern and Norman Martel. Robert is survived by his spouse Marguerite; his daughters: Julie (Jon) Martel, Paula Nicolini, Anne (Al) Cody-Martel; his grandchildren: Cathy Cody, Chris Cody, Jeff Eberhard, Sabrina Sides, Luke Nicolini, Juliana Nicolini, Erica Nicolini; his great-grandchildren: Liam and Clara Eberhard.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Family Cathedral, 530 S. Glassell, Orange, CA at 12:10 PM on January 18, 2015. A Rosary will be held before the service 11:30 AM at the church. The family will be greeting friends and relatives after the service at the Park Tustin Club house at 17502 Via Lindo, Tustin.
