Hargis, Marguerite Martha

Marguerite Martha Hargis , a longtime resident of Millbrae passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day. She is survived by her children, Yvonne Ing (her partner Robert Smyers), Gregg Hargis (his wife Mary), Brenda Melconian (her husband Richard), Steven Hargis and Debra Sisson (her husband Timothy), nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was born in Brownsville, Texas and moved to Oregon when she was thirteen. There she met Floyd Ernest and married at eighteen. She was widowed at age twenty-three with three small children. She moved to California and worked many jobs to keep her family together. She met and married George Byron Hargis and was again widowed in 1971.
Raising her family of five children, she remained on the Peninsula and opened her own dress shop, Marguerite's Tall Shop in San Bruno. Marguerite did well with her dress shop, but found her greatest success as a Real Estate Broker. This gave her the flexibility to be with her children.
Marguerite traveled the world with her long-time friend and partner, Joseph Welch, who preceded her in death in 2011. She was a member of the North San Mateo Board of Realtors and was a volunteer for the Blood Bank.
Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Service, Thursday, January 3, 2013, 1:00 PM at CHAPEL OF THE HIGHLANDS, 194 Millwood Drive at El Camino Real in Millbrae.
