Tributes for

Leversen, Margaret Mary "Marge"

Send a Note

Leversen, Margaret Mary born March 25, 1921, was a strong, sweet, sensitive, optimistic, and fun mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend.

Marge, as she was known to family and friends, was very active. She loved to go dancing, golf, play bridge, take walks around Balboa Island, and see new places.

Family was everything to her. She loved nothing more than to surround herself with her family, tell stories, play games, and laugh. She had the best laugh. Sunday dinners were a regular occurrence.

She grew up in Chicago with two brothers Jack and Andy. Her best friend from high school, Jerry, married her brother. She loved to tell stories about the dances they’d go to, trips to the beach, and the fun times she had growing up.

In September, 1943, she married Arn, the love of her life. Together, they had five children – Lynn, Michael, Owen, Paul, and Jane. Arn was a pilot for United. He was taken from the family far too early. Marge went back to school to get her real estate license to support her family.

Marge, Gram, or grandma (as she was known to her 31 grandchildren and great grandchildren) was a lot of fun. She regularly had them over for slumber parties, trips to Irvine Park, or a roller skate around Balboa Island followed by a Balboa bar. They could count on grandma to go to their sporting events, graduations, and other milestone events; to pick them up from school; or to just lend an ear when they wanted to talk. She even hopped in the car to go camping, hiking, skiing, and waterskiing.

Later in life, Marge married Henry Hellweg who shared her love of dancing, golf, and socializing with friends. Henry also died too soon.

Those who knew Marge knew her joy of life. Marge lived her life to the fullest. We will all miss her. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Cathedral on Monday May 21st at 12:10 p.m.
