Tributes for

Kurtz, Armida E.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and sister, Armida E. Kurtz on Monday, June 13, 2016 from complications associated with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Armida was born September 22, 1934 to the late Pauline M. Holguin and Robert Moses Holguin in Los Angeles, CA, raised in Boyle Heights. She attended St. Joseph's Elementary School near downtown and later graduated from Bishop Conaty H.S. in 1953. In 1954 she met the love of her life, Glenn A. Kurtz, a Marine from Wisconsin, at the old Hollywood Palladium Club. They were married on August 28th, 1954, and were married 59 years until Glenn's passing in 2013. Together with her husband they built and ran several businesses, most recently the Apartment Directory, where she continued to work until just before her passing. She had been a resident of San Pedro, CA for the past 40 years, was a member of the Soroptimist Club for nearly 50 years, a proud Democrat, and an avid Bruin fan, rarely missing a home basketball or football game, and often traveling to follow her beloved Bruins! Together Glenn and Armida loved to travel and visited all but one continent. She was a lifelong reader, and mean bunko player, too. Armida embraced all life had to offer from zip lining in Costa Rica and river rafting on the Truckee river in her 70's to being a successful career woman without a break from age 18 to 81, to spending time with family and friends from as far back as grade school and high school. Armida was a warm and compassionate woman who was always ready to listen and lend a helping hand. Armida will be sorely missed by her son Laurence (Heide), daughter Laura (Vincent) Wrtaza, grandchildren Vincent (Tanya) Wrtaza Jr., Courtney Wrtaza, Catherine Kurtz, and Teddy Kurtz, sister Gloria (Robert) White, four great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, too numerous to mention. Family and friends are welcome for a memorial reception and luncheon on Saturday, June 25th in the Madeo Room at the San Pedro Doubletree Hilton beginning at 11:30.
