John V. O'Connor, Ph.D
March 3, 1951 – December 11, 2012

John passed away quietly in the presence of his family in San Carlos. Born in Chicago to John and Agnes (O’Malley) O’Connor, he was a life long Cubs fan. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduate school at the University of Iowa. In 1981 John moved to California with his wife, Barbara, to join a fledgling Genentech, Inc. During his successful thirty-year career, he held a variety of positions where he developed professional and personal relationships, nationally and internationally. He was most recently the Head of Global Quality Inspection Management, a job he thoroughly loved. He was actively involved in Boy Scout Troop #321 in San Carlos with his son Andy. He loved golf and was a member of Green Hills Country Club. John will always be remembered for his quick wit and fun loving personality. His family, friends and colleagues acknowledge that he was Notre Dame's biggest fan, a wonderful husband and father, and hero to his son Andy. While fighting his advancing illness this year, he successfully cheered Notre Dame to their incredible undefeated season before he left us.
Beloved husband of Barbara (Horsey) O'Connor and devoted father of William Andrew O'Connor, he was the cherished brother of James O'Connor (Denise) and brother-in-law of William Bradford Horsey (Susan). He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and colleagues. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17th from 5 - 8 PM at Crippen and Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, December 18th at 10 AM at St. Charles Church, 880 Tamarack Avenue, San Carlos.
