Tributes for

Wood, Jeremy Matthew

Send a Note

Jeremy Matthew Wood was born in Fountain Valley, California on March 27th, 1989.
He left this world on September 8th, 2013. He was 24 years old.
Jeremy is survived by his loving mother, Diane Marie Wood.
He has joined his father, Dean Robert Scheman, who had left us in December of 2012.
Jeremy is also survived by others who miss him dearly.
He has friends, aunts, uncles and cousins who wish they could talk to him one more time.
Jeremy was an avid swimmer. He lettered in water polo and swimming.
He was a lifeguard for six years in Fountain Valley and Newport Beach.
He was also very intelligent and a dedicated student.
In 2012 he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine.
He paid for his education as he went, and he knew his stuff.
He is fondly remembered for his ability to discuss any topic with ease, and his keen and biting sense of humor.
If you saw Jeremy at a family party, he was the one on the carpet playing with the children and making them laugh.
He loved everyone, but he loved the children especially.
As a student, Jeremy spent as much time as he could with children.
He interned at the Children’s Center at UCI, and was hired onto a paid position there when the center’s staff saw how well he worked with the kids.
It was his hope to find a similar position working with children after graduation.
Unfortunately for Jeremy, other things happened along the way.
He had long dealt with depression, as many bright and sensitive people do.
He had also discovered the recreational use of drugs that are better left alone.
And so began a struggle that would eventually overtake one of the best of us.

Jeremy's Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday September 15, 2013 at El Cholo Mexican Restaurant 5465 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA 92604. Please come and share your memories.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jeremy's memory to "The Friends of Children's Library" at the Huntington Beach Public Library, 7111 Talbert Ave., Huntington Beach, CA 92648.
