Duncan, James L. "Jim" Memorial services for Mr. James L. "Jim" Duncan, age 86, of Hideaway, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 18, 2015 in the Hideaway Lake Community Church with Rev. Paul Garrison officiating. Services are under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Directors in Lindale. Mr. Duncan died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 in a Tyler hospice center. He was born in Dallas, Texas on September 20, 1928 to the late James L. and Alma Louise (Gupton) Duncan and graduated high school from Highland Park High School in 1947. Mr. Duncan attended college at both TCU and Schreiner Institute, each on basketball scholarships and served in the National Guard. He retired after 33 years working as a salesman for Champion International and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Duncan had served as past president of Kiwanis and was a member of the Hideaway Lake Community Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Duncan. "Sonny" as Mr. Duncan is known by his family is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Griffin Duncan of Hideaway, Texas; daughter, Stacia Duncan Powell and husband, Keith of Arlington, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Duncan Powell of Houston, Texas, Alex Powell and Ashley of Arlington, Texas and Bailey Powell of New York City, New York; 2 great grandchildren, Trip and Ransom; brother, Carroll Duncan of Newberg, Oregon; sisters, Ann Steagall of Fairview, Texas and Janet Cheatham of Grand Saline, Texas; sister-in-law, Sue Duncan of Kaufman, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Honorary pallbearers are Rupert Anthony, Richard Beene, Bob Harding, Chris Jordan, Carl Knox, Walt Moyer, Jerry Mullin, Jack Preston, and Clarence Thornbourgh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hideaway Lake Community Church.
