Dobrott, Bette
August 2, 2011
Bette Dobrott passed away peacefully on August 2, 2011 at her home in Newport Beach with her husband Jim, children and grandchildren by her side.
Bette was born Bette Porter in Los Angeles, and grew up in the Fairfax district of LA. She attended St. Monica High School in Santa Monica, where she met Jim and began a romance that led to 59 years of marriage. After high school she worked at Prudential Insurance Company. Bette and Jim married in 1952 and raised their five children beginning in Culver City, California, eventually settling on Lido Isle, Newport Beach in 1972.
She was a tireless volunteer, serving as a member of the Assistance League of Newport Mesa, the Women's Guild of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and as a past President of the Cinderella Guild of Children's Hospital of Orange County. She and Jim were longtime members of Lake Arrowhead Country Club and Santa Ana Country Club.
Bette loved Broadway musicals & travel. She enthusiastically attended shows in New York, London, Los Angeles and the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Bette and Jim traveled extensively during their life together, exploring every continent except Antarctica. Her passions were her husband, children and nine grandchildren. She was an avid fan of any sport her children & grandchildren played. She fed teams, sat in bleachers... and cheered.
Bette is survived by her husband Jim, sons James Jr. (Ginette), Michael, John (Heidi), and daughter Megan. Her passing was predeceased by her son Danny. The highlight of her life was without a doubt her nine grandchildren; Daniel, John, Harry, Michael, Taylor, Natalie, Hannah, Brynne and Davis.
Bette will be truly missed by her many friends, but especially by a family that loved her beyond words. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Newport Beach, on Thursday, September 8th at 10am - aloha/resort attire please. In lieu flowers, donations may be made in Bette's name to Hoag Hospital Foundation, 500 Superior Avenue, Suite 350, Newport Beach, CA 92663 or online at www.hoaghospitalfoundation.org.
