Livio Cristanelli
Passed away after a long illness. Determined to the end, he fought a courageous battle.
Livio was born in the coal mining town of Superior Wyoming, a town that molded him into the hard worker he was legendary for. He had a memorable childhood and would recount stories of living a frontier type lifestyle.
Livio was drafted into the Army and served his time in Paris, France. He was selected from a group of Soldiers to be personal chauffeur to a general. He always told us he regretted leaving the Army because he had it made "As a young man in Paris in the early 50's it couldn't get any better"
After the Army Livio moved to Ca. to pursue an employment opportunity with Sunset Scavengers, at first he hated the job but hung in there. He retired after 34years of faithful service, attaining the rank of President. He would often say "for some my decisions were not always the most popular, but I always considered taking care of the working man first."
Livio and his brothers had investments in Lake Tahoe. They owned and operated the Tropicana Motel for almost 50 years. Many family gatherings were spent in Lake Tahoe.
In retirement he traveled extensively throughout the states and Europe. He loved Italy and was fortunate to have made many visits. He loved to work, always building or tearing something down. Watching football and playing cards with friends were other favorite pastimes. He was a member of the Trentino Club, Lucchesse Nel Mondo Club, Peninsula Club and Sons of Italy Roseville.
He was preceded in death by his Father Virgilio, Mother Josephine, son Mark, brothers Rudy and Joe.
Survived by his devoted wife Marlene, Sister Annie, sisters-in-law Alice and Wynema, stepsons Greg and Gary Morganti. He has many nieces, nephews and cousins here and in Italy.
Friends may visit on Monday April 7,2014 from 4:00PM to 9:00PM and are invited to attend the Vigil Service also on Monday at 7:00PM at the Chapels of Valente Marini Perata & Co. 4840 Mission Street, SF. The celebration of the Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 10:00AM at Immaculate Conception Chapel 3255 Folsom Street, SF Followed by Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 1500 Mission Road, Colma.
