Conway, Joseph Warren

Conway, Joseph Warren, of Villa Park, CA, died of cancer at the age of 82 on Monday, September 12, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange. Joe was born in Cylinder, Iowa on April 7, 1929, the 9th of twelve children born to James and Mary Conway. His siblings are Mary, James, Alice, Leo, Frank, Lawrence, Bernice, Veronica, Eugene, Robert and William. He was father to 7 children, 2 sons-in-law, 3 daughters-in-law, 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Joe served in the Korean War and when he first saw California as he shipped out to Japan he determined that one day he was going to live in California. After the war, Joe studied at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa where he met Marjorie Schaaf, a nursing student at Mercy Hospital. They were married in Dubuque on September 17, 1955. Joe and Marge soon moved to Chicago, Illinois and started their family there with Mary Frances, Joe, Frank and Tom. They moved to California in 1962 and continued their family with Kevin, Jennifer and Theresa. In 1973 they moved to Villa Park and St. Norbert Parish.

In 1965, Joe and his brother, Bob, formed Diversified Securities, a stock brokerage firm that flourished with offices across California. To the end he put on his suit every day and went to the office.

Joe was a great host and loved nothing more than throwing a party. He loved his family, faith, Mater Dei, Las Vegas, fishing, gardening, golf and Jacuzzi-ing. He was a big supporter of Sigma Pi Fraternity where his sons were founding fathers. Two of his favorite charities were Mercy House in which the Conway family has been involved from its inception and Broadway Cares where his son Frank works which also supports Mercy House.

Joe was predeceased in 1996 by his wife of 40 years, Marge Conway. In 2006 he married Mary Harn, a family friend since Dubuque.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary; his siblings, Bernice, Veronica and Robert; his children, Mary, Joe, Frank, Tom, Kevin, Jennifer and Theresa; his sons and daughters-in-law, Vickie, Liz, Linda, Phil and Chris; his 18 grandchildren and his great-grandson.
