Casper, Donald Andrew

Donald Andrew Casper May 3, 1948 - August 14, 2011 Donald Andrew Casper, Esq., aged 63, died tragically in Sonoma County on August 14th, 2011. Donald was the devoted son of the late Andrew C. Casper, retired Chief of the San Francisco Fire Department and the late Dorothy M. Casper . Donald was the loving nephew of Henry J. Casper, Jr., with whom he shared a special lifetime relationship. He was also the loving nephew of the late Harold J. and Barbara Jean Casper. He is also survived by Henry's children Bernadette Casper Castagnola (Matthew) and their children Madison and Riley, and Joan, Susan, Janeth and Helen Casper. Don was also a cousin to William Amarolli, Harold Venturino and Richard Zanotti. Donald was also the cherished grandson of the late Henry J. Casper Sr. and Grace Gallagher Casper and the late Lindo D. and Attilia Colla. Don was a loving friend to the Leveroni, Payne and Pellegrini families and their children who will all miss "Uncle Don." Don was a proud member of a fourth generation distinguished San Francisco service family. Don grew up in North Beach and attended Salesian Grammar School and St. Ignatius High School where he graduated with honors. He then went on to Georgetown University where he proudly received his undergraduate and law degrees. While at Georgetown, he was editor-in-chief of Georgetown's undergraduate weekly newspaper, "The Hoya", and was the first recipient of the University's Edward Bunn Award for Journalistic Excellence. After graduation from Georgetown, Don became active in local civic and charitable organizations. He was most recently the current Vice-President of the Civil Service Commission, board member of his beloved Salesian Boys & Girls Club, the Janet Pomeroy Center and chairman of the Columbus Day Parade committee. He was also a current member of The Olympic Club (50+years), The Bohemian Club (Fore Peak Camp) and a member of the Order of Malta. Don was also a past member of the San Francisco Republican Central Committee, the Georgetown University Library Associates and past president of the St. Thomas More Society. Friends and family are invited to SS Peter & Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street Monday, Aug. 22, from 5:00pm , with a vigil service beginning at 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. at SS Peter & Paul Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
