Tributes for

Buick, Jr., John E.

John E. Buick, Jr.

Jack joined his wife and best friend, Joan, in heaven on Tuesday, June 17th to celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary. Joining Joan to welcome dad are his parents John and Dolores McCann Buick along with his cherished children, Johnny, Peter and Paul Buick and Sally Maciejewski. Celebrating his life are his sister, Lorna Barry, children, Jimmy (Maureen) Buick, Ann (Bill) MacDonough, Danny (Susan) Buick, Lorna, Jeanne and Michael Buick, and son-in-law Peter Maciejewski. Dad is also survived by his loving grandchildren Jason and Sarah Buick, Kristen (Gino) Benedetti, Peter and Jeanne Maciejewski, Daniel and Carrie MacDonough, Paul (Buick) Arnautoff and Ryan Buick. He also greatly enjoyed the laughter he shared with the Barry, Grealish, McCann and Talcott families.

Our family would like to thank his dearest friend, Alannah Hurley, for her love and support throughout the years. We are grateful for our dad's caretakers, Marilyn Marquez and Sonny Ancheta, who inspired our dad to sing and dance, and also for the unbelievable care and support of his physician, Dr. Daniel Pound.

Dad was a third generation San Franciscan born in 1926. He attended Star of the Sea Grammar School, St. Ignatius High School (Class of 1943), where he played basketball, baseball and was in the band. From S.I., he joined the Navy where he played baseball in Hawaii. He went on to St. Mary's College in Moraga (Class of 1949) where he played baseball and basketball, was a cheerleader and was editor of the year book. In 1976, he was inducted in the St. Mary's Hall of Fame for baseball. Jack played minor league baseball in Klamath Falls before joining the staff at Christian Brother's High School in Sacramento as teacher and coach where he was recognized with the Outstanding Service to the Youth of Greater Sacramento award.

Jack married Joan Hallinan in 1950, and together they instilled in their ten children that family always comes first. He took great pleasure in watching and participating in his children's and grandchildren's various activities. He was a fan of them all. He was also a member of Sons of the Shake, one of the founders of the Hibernian Newman Club and a lifelong fan of the 49ers and Giants.

Please join us in celebration of Jack's life on Tuesday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church, 2555 17th Avenue, San Francisco. Visitation commences at 10:30 a.m. Private interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
