Bonjean, Jerry

Fr. Jerry Bonjean, S.D.B. entered eternal life Monday, March 10th at City of Hope Hospital, Duarte, CA, in the presence of Madelyn, his sister, Paul, his brother, and members of the Salesians of Don Bosco. His one other brother, John, died in 2013.

Jerry grew up in the shadow of SS Peter and Paul Church which was the center of the family's life. His early education, his early sacramental and educational life were in the parish and the Salesian Boys Club. Jerry Bonjean graduated from St. Ignatius high school in 1955.

Jerry Bonjean professed a Salesian in 1957, received a B.A. in philosophy at Don Bosco College, Newton, N.J. in 1961 and after studying theology in Italy was ordained a priest in 1967. Further education included studies at USF and the Vatican II Institute, Menlo Park.

His priestly ministry followed in Salesian schools, parishes, and formation assignments in Watsonville, Richmond, and in southern California at Rosemead and Bellflower. Notably at SS Peter and Paul parish in San Francisco he was religious superior, Vicar and Pastor, 1988-1993; 1997-2003.

A rosary prayer service will be held March 13th at St. John Bosco Chapel, Bellflower.

The Funeral Mass at SS Peter and Paul Church, San Francisco, will be held Monday, March 17th, 10:00 am. Interment at Salesian Cemetery, Richmond, Calif.
