Tributes for

Anderson, Jim

Anderson, Jim Rainier
James "Jim" Rainier Anderson, 64, died peacefully June 27, 2015 after 14 years living with cancer.

Born in Portsmouth, Ohio to William and Evelyn Anderson, Jim's childhood was filled with paper routes, scouting, tennis, golf and myriad trips to the emergency room for the injuries one incurs when living for play and adventure.

Jim graduated from Furman University in Greenville, SC in 1972, earning a business degree, brotherhood in Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, and the love of Christine Warren. After two years in the Army, Jim and Chris married in 1974 and lived happy years in Columbia at the University of South Carolina, each earning graduate degrees. Careers brought them to Austin in 1978, which has remained home.

Jim was an educator, teaching at McCallum, Austin, and Anderson High Schools. Jim was a friend, extending his generous spirit to all who knew him. Jim was a brother, to sisters with whom he grew up and friends that became family. But most notably to those that will miss him most, Jim was a father. Jim challenged children Meagan and James to work hard, love hard, and laugh often. He instilled in them a confidence that they could be and do anything they wanted-and they continue to believe him.

Preceding Jim in death were his wife, Christine Warren Anderson, and his parents. Surviving him are children Meagan (Bill) Longley and James Rainier Anderson, II; granddaughter Evelyn Anne Longley; sisters Martha (Chuck) Miker, Beth (Jim) Hallan, Kim (Bob) Noe, Colleen (John) Moore, and Betty Warren. Jim's 15 nieces and nephews will remember their uncle fondly, mostly for his raucous repartee and his delight at the cocktail hour.

A memorial celebration will occur July 16, 2015; visit wcfish.com for details. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Austin Community Foundation, 4315 Guadalupe, Suite 300, Austin, TX 78751 or austincf.org.
