Acheson, John

John Huyler Acheson II, 72, of Indianapolis, sadly and unexpectedly passed away on October 16, 2014, with his loving wife and family at his side.

John was born September 28, 1942, the beloved son of Patricia Jameson Acheson and Cornell (Duke) Woolley Acheson. He attended The Orchard Country Day School, graduated from the Culver Military Academy, and earned a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree from Indiana University. He proudly served 2 tours in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps, twice received The Purple Heart¸ and remained life-long friends with many who served with him. He was a strong and proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over four decades, and was a mentor to many in need.

John was a realtor with Landrigan & Company, a member of the National Associa-tion of Realtors, the Indiana Association of Realtors and MIBOR. He was also a member of The University Club, The Dramatic Club of Indianapolis and The Indiana Society of Pioneers. John fox hunted with the Traders Point Hunt Club for many years. His passion for horses, sense of humor, bravery and wonderful, giving heart will be truly missed.

John is survived by his cherished wife of 35 years, Becky Beasley Acheson, daughter Stacia Stark Schoeneman and her husband Bill Schoeneman, son Matthew Stark, grandsons Richard Carter Fortune and Russell Tanner Fortune, mother Patricia (Patty) Jameson Cochran, brother Donald Jameson Acheson, and his wife Clare Fox Acheson, nine first cousins, four nieces, two nephews, four great nephews, two great nieces and one great-great niece, as well as so many beloved friends and associates. He was proud to have made Booth Tarkington a great-great uncle upon his birth.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 27th at the Crown Hill Ceme-tery Gothic Chapel with a full Military Honors burial and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project (WoundedWarriorProject.org/donate).
