Amos, Dr. William "Bill" Earl Dallas resident, William Earl Amos, 85, died August 3, 2011, at his home in Dallas, Texas. At his request, funeral will be graveside at Frankford Cemetery in N. Dallas on Wednesday at 10am. Dr. Amos was born July 20, 1926, in Charleston, Arkansas, to G.L. and Laura Kate Jones Amos. Bill could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He served his country, family and friends with a rare dedication to duty, the highest standard of ethics and a relentless sense of bettering himself and those around him. Mr. Amos came to Texas with his wife and family to set up the U.S. Parole and Probation regional office, to which he was nominated by President Nixon and reappointed by President Ford. In addition he was a: retired Lt. Col., U.S. Army; Former Secret Service Agent; college professor; School Psychologist; Chief-Division of Youth Employment, Labor Dept; Asst. Director-President's Crime Commission; Chief-Division of Counseling and Test Development, Labor Dept; Chairman and member, U.S Parole Commissioner; Prof. Emeritus NTSU; Co-author of eight professional books; and an avid art collector. He received many academic and professional honors: American Society of Criminology Pres. Western Society of Criminology Pres., PSI CHI, Licensed Psychologist , DC.; PHI ALPHA THETA; member SAR, Plano, TX Chapter; Fellow, American Psychological Assoc. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ava "Kit" Mitchell Amos; children William Jr., Randolph K., Laura L. Burnett and Lisa A. Callaghan, as well as grandfather of William III, Alexandria, Nicholas, Erin and great grandchild, Ava Marie.
