William “Wild Bill” Coston, age 67, a resident of Santa Ana, passed away May 22, 2011. He was born September 25, 1944 in Yuma, Arizona and moved to Santa Ana at age 12 where he attended St. Anne’s, Mater Dei High School, and Santa Ana College. Bill met the light of his life, Peggy Louise Oberdorfer, at Santa Ana College. He was a linebacker; she was a song-leader; it was kismet. They married just seven weeks after meeting and remained married for 46 years. After playing football as a Monarch and Don, Bill and Peggy started their new life together in Berkeley, California where Bill was recruited to play as a Golden Bear. His passion for football long outlasted his collegiate career. He worked as a coach and was a lifelong enthusiast of “the game.” Good eats and hospitality were a hobby and vocation for Bill. He was a restaurateur with Coco’s for 30 years and Marie Calendar’s for 10. Bill is survived by his children, Cindy, Gary, Joy, Ty, Sommer, and Tucker and his grandchildren, Noah, Hogan, Olivia, McKenna, Sean, Nikki, Bryce, and Abigail. Bill’s wife, 6 children, and 8 grandchildren were his life and constant happiness. A viewing will be held on Friday, May 27, from 2:00-5:00 at Brown Colonial Mortuary in Santa Ana, and a funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Cathedral in Orange on Saturday, May 28 at noon.
