Spannagel, David W.

David Wilson Spannagel, age 69, died in the home he built in Penryn, CA on July 4, 2016 after a valiant three year battle with lung cancer. David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vicki; his sons John (Hilary) and Mark (Emily) and three precious grandsons, Franklin, Johnny and Tommy; his mother Susan; and his sister Peggy Schechter (Paul). He was preceded in death by his father Robert and grandparents Annie and George Wilson and in-laws John and Mary Pjontek. David was born in 1946 in South San Francisco to Robert and Susan Spannagel. He spent his youth in Concord CA graduating from Clayton Valley High School. He graduated from University of California at Davis in 1970 with a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering. He worked for CalTrans doing structural research and bridge construction. In 1976 he began his own successful Civil Engineering business in Western Placer County. After retiring in 2008 he enjoyed golfing with a wonderful group of friends, fishing, and traveling with Vicki. He loved being a grandfather and looked forward to many activities with his grandsons. He was also a talented woodworker and all family members have beautiful furniture pieces to remember him by. His smile, wit and presence will be greatly missed.
