Gezelius, John

John Laurence Gezelius, Esq. left us too soon on August 2, 2014, after suffering a sudden heart attack while having dinner in his home town of Orange, CA. John loved our country, our brotherhood, trains and craft beer. Born in Long Beach on January 21, 1956, he was 58 years old. John graduated from El Modena High in 1974, UC Berkeley in 1978 with a BA in Political Science, an MBA from the Univ of North Dakota in 1982, a degree from the Joint Military Intelligence College in 1994, and a JD from McGeorge Law School in 1989. John practiced law in Orange County and enjoyed many friends and brothers in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, for which he traveled throughout the country helping to invigorate its chapters and enhance leadership. In 2006, he was awarded Lambda Chi Alpha's highest volunteer honor, the Order of Merit. John also made many friends in the U.S. Air Force, for which he served first in ROTC at UC Berkeley, and as a missile launch commander for the 321 Strategic Missile Wing at Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, and later in the USAF Reserve in intelligence roles in Washington, D.C.and elsewhere, from which he retired as a Lt. Colonel. John also had friends from serving in the Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 33, and as Camp Counselor and Advisor to many troops. He is survived by a sister, Pamela Nix of Cottonwood Arizona and her two children. John was preceded in death by his parents Jane and Laurence Gezelius. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His funeral is on Friday, October 3rd, 10:30 am at the Brown Colonial Mortuary, 204 W. 17th St., Santa Ana, CA followed by burial at the Riverside National Cemetery with military honors.
