Send a Note

Raymond Gerald Alvarado passed away on July 17, 2014 at the age of 78 in Tustin, California.

At Ray’s side was his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara, and his two adoring sons, David and Michael. Ray (or Popi as we he was affectionately known by his grandchildren) had two doting daughters in law (Robin and Julie), and 7 wonderful grandchildren (Kate, Annie, Jessica, Joe, Madison, Justin and Jennifer Ray). He also has two guardian children and their wives that love him dearly, Kennedy Polamalu (and his wife Diane) and Aoatoa Polamalu (and his wife Chris) and their children K.C, Maika, Matthew, Sene, Taelese and Tre. Ray is also survived by a brother (Tim Alvarado) and sister (Barbara Joseph) and a cousin (Sue Sherlock).

In his childhood, Ray was known to his classmates and siblings as Jerry, when he attended St. Gregory elementary school and St. Agnes High School in Los Angeles. He went on to graduate from USC and then law school at Southwestern University. He was a founder and Managing Partner of the AlvaradoSmith Law Firm in Santa Ana and truly enjoyed going to work every day to see his colleagues.

In his last year and a half, his illness took him to Silverado Senior Living in Tustin. His family is deeply indebted to them for the loving, professional care that was shown to Ray during this difficult time.

A man of many hobbies, he loved coaching his kids and many others in youth basketball, restoring vintage sports cars, and painting, gardening and growing bonsai trees. He also was a philanthropist and enjoyed volunteering at local charities with his wife.

The Rosary will take place on July 23, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish (51 Market Place, Irvine, CA 92602). The funeral service and Mass will be the next morning (July 24th), at 10:00 a.m., also at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish.
