Powers, Dennis P., 53, a resident of Santa Ana, passed away Friday June 20, 2014. He is survived by his son, Dennis; mother Bonnie; sisters, Kathy and Peggy; brothers, Richard, Dan, Mike and John. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday June 27 at St. Cecilia Church, Tustin, CA followed by interment in Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange, CA.

Orange, CA. 92869.

Dennis Powers, 1st twin born June 20th, 1961. He was baptized at St. Hedgwig. Attended Redhill School, St. Cecilia’s for 5th through 8th grades. Attended Foothill High and graduated from Hillview High.

Dennis had a happy childhood. He played Little League Baseball and his best position was outfielder because he had a good eye for the ball leaving the bat.
He and his family did lots of camping and traveling cross country to visit the grandmothers. He also went camping in Canada, in Colorado and all over the coast of California. He attended local events like patriotic parades in Tustin and the chili cook off was his favorite.

Dennis married Diane at St. Cecilia’s Church but the marriage did not last. He had his son and was so very proud of him. He coached little league for his son’s team and would take Denny deep sea fishing teaching him how to bait the hook. They also rode motorcycles and had many good camping trips as well. Dennis rode his motorcycle from Santa Ana to Boston to visit his sister Peggy. It was quite an adventure but he enjoyed the trip and remembered so much of what he saw. He also did some sky diving just for the fun.

Dennis was a private person. He did not share emotions or feelings. But he had a good sense of humor. He was witty and could always remember the jokes he heard. He also had a good hand at cooking and the spicier the better. Dennis was also very patriotic and loved his country.

He had a good job at the print shop until the shop went bankrupt. It was very hard for Dennis to find employment in another line of work. He used the computer trying to find employment, he went to companies but nothing opened up for him. He did start helping Phil at the Liquors Plus More. When Phil’s wife needed surgery and treatments Dennis filled in at the liquor store, he was Phil’s Godsend. After Phil died, Dennis worked full time, sometimes both shifts.

Dennis started to do volunteer work so that he would have contacts and by chance get a good job. He did begin helping Pete Ruiz with the Food Ministry on Saturday mornings and Tuesday mornings.

Dennis’ health became an issue with him. His eyesight deteriorated and his heart had palpitations at times. He was not sure day to day if he would make it.

He parked his car in the church parking lot. He might have gone in to church to ask God’s forgiveness for what he was about to do. He had started to go to church again and only God knows his heart. We are praying for Dennis. May he rest in peace.
