Karas, Emil

Emil was born in Cleveland, Ohio Sept. 18, 1920. He passed away Dec. 29, 2013 at the age of 93. He worked for White Sewing Machine and attended Cleveland State at the beginning of WWII. He gave up his dererment to join the army and was recruited to work at Los Alamos on the Manhatten Project. He worked on the fabrication of the outer shell of Fat Man and Little Boy. After the war he met Norma Morgan and they were married April 2, 1948. She preceded him in death Jan. 9, 2002. Emil and Norma moved to Cleveland where Emil completed his degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He worked for Goodyear in Akron, OH and was transferred to Phoenix, AZ in 1952. In 1961 he moved his family to Carmichael, CA to work for Aerojet General from where he eventually retired. He is survived by his daughter Diane Plummer, sons Kerry Karas, Terry Karas (Judy), granddaughter Melissa Hynson (Ted), grandsons Matthew Plummer, Timothy Karas and Kyle Plummer (Janet) and great-granddaughter Morgan Karas and brother Arthur Karas. Viewing will be Monday, Jan 6th from 2-4 P.M. at Lind Brothers Mortuary in Carmichael. Internment will be held at a later date.
