Pycior, Donald Lee

Pycior, Donald Lee, 73, of Pismo Beach passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 27th at Sierra Vista.

Don was born in Kansas City, KS December 18, 1938. He joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school and was stationed at Camp Pendleton for three years. In 1965 he attended Long Beach State where he earned his BA and Masters degree in Physical Education.

In 1974 he got his teaching credential and taught PE at Canyon High School in Anaheim for 30 years.

He was best known as beloved coach. He coached many sports, his favorite was cross country.

He was an avid and accomplished runner, competing in numerous marathons and ultra marathons. In 1980 he met Kathy at a running event, and it was love at first sight. They recently celebrated their 30th anniversary. Don retired from Canyon High School in 1996, but continued coaching his cross country team until moving to their dream home in Pismo Beach in 1998.

Don is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kathy; sons, John, Mike (Julia); daughter, Jodi (Pat); step-daughters, Shelly Garcia (David) and Julie Reynolds (Jack); grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Ryan, Kate, Emily, Maddy, C.J. and Kiera. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Frances Pycior. A memorial service will be held in SLO on Monday, Dec 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Reis Family Mortuary and a Celebration of Life will be held in HB in January.
