Mossy, John Peyton

John Peyton Mossy, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to all, passed away at the age of 22, on Sunday, December 11, 2011. He is survived by his parents, Peter and Sandy Mossy, and siblings: Travis (25), Blake (18), and Charlie (10). He is also survived by his grandparents, Lyle and Evelyn Meyer and Wiley Mossy; uncles and aunts Phil and Julie Mossy, David and Lisa Mossy, Jim and Beth Watt, Skipper and Carol York, Tom and Karla Meyer, David and Julie Meyer, and James Meyer; as well as dozens of cousins who loved him dearly. John Mossy was born at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla on September 28, 1989. He attended Santa Fe Christian Schools in Solana Beach from kindergarten through his senior year of high school-and received a "Lifer" award at his high school graduation in 2008. He began wrestling in junior high, and by the time he reached high school, he was one of the best wrestlers in his weight class. He was named 2004 Santa Fe Christian's Wrestler of the Year. He was an all American wrestler and made it to the State Championships twice. John had a passion for all things athletic. Whether he was playing lacrosse, football or wrestling, his enthusiasm inspired his friends, family and teammates. His awards, titles, and trophies made his family proud. Following high school graduation, he attended Southern Methodist University. John had an amazing ability to make anyone smile with his infectious laugh and spontaneity. He made friends everywhere and with everyone. John was humble and didn't seek the spotlight, but his humor, wisdom, smile, and charisma made people gravitate to him. He spent time serving on mission trips in Haiti, Jamaica, and Mexico. John's gentle, sensitive spirit gave him the genuine quality of being an angel. His family and his friends will remember him for his smile, laugh, passion for life, his faith, his love for his family and his desire to serve the Lord. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 6309 El Apajo Road in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
