Hayes, T.Y.

HAYES, T.Y. 75, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at USC Norris Cancer Hospital surrounded by his family. Born Thomas Ralston Hayes to Dr. Charles and Edith Hayes on April 9, 1938 in Los Angeles, the younger of two children, T.Y. grew up in Hancock Park, graduated from Loyola High School in the class of '55 and the University of Notre Dame class of '59.
Though he first noticed the girl who would become his wife when he was in third grade and she in first grade at Cathedral Chapel School, T.Y. began dating his beautiful bride Sharon Foote shortly after college and they married October 7, 1961. T.Y. did a tour of duty in the U.S. Army in the Baltimore, Maryland, area and after completion of his tour returned to Los Angeles to begin a career in the insurance industry of over 50 years.
Life-long, devout Catholics and long-time members of St. Charles Parish in North Hollywood, T.Y. and Sharon raised their 6 children in Toluca Lake and moved to San Gabriel in 2000.
T.Y. was an avid sports enthusiast and an especially keen supporter of Notre Dame football. He loved to spend time with family and friends and for him golf was an endless source of fun he shared with so many people in his life having joined Wilshire Country Club in 1960 and then San Gabriel Country Club in 2001.
T.Y. is survived by his loving wife Sharon, brother Mike, children Mike, Jennifer, Stephanie, Danny, Kevin and Katie, grandchildren Ashley, Campbell, London, Charlie and Tommy, Danny's wife Colleen and Kevin's wife Julie.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena on Thursday, June 6th at 10am, officiated by Monsignor Clement Connolly and Monsignor Robert Gallagher. Flowers can be sent to Holy Family Church and/or donations can be made to USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.
