Tributes for

Shupe, John

John Shupe, our father and the stronghold of our family, left us peacefully on February 14, 2016 watched over by his family after a brief struggle with cancer at the age of 89. During his long and prolific life, John and Beatrice, his wife of 67 years, were active and devoted members of the community at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. John was born December 30, 1926 in Roseville, CA. Raised in Fresno by his caring parents Rozella and Clifford, John entered the Navy out of High School and he used the GI bill to finish his Bachelor's degree. He married his Clovis High School sweetheart Beatrice Patterson. The two settled In Sacramento where he became a math teacher and ultimately a middle school principal with the Sacramento City School District. John was always handy with carpentry and in 1950, with the help of family and friends, he built the Shupe's longtime family home in Arden Park. This hobby would later lead him to pursue his contracting license and a second career as a home repair specialist. He and Beatrice had four children, Patty (deceased), John, Keith and Karen. John's memory lives on in his nine adoring grandchildren and two great-grand-children who fondly recall the countless stories and memories he would so frequently share throughout their lives. In his retirement he devoted his time to being a cornerstone in the church community, to hobbies such as fishing, camping and art to spending time with his loving family, to adventurous world travel and to donating his skill as a gifted carpenter and contractor, and to charities such as Habitat for Humanity and Family promise. His generosity, talent and kindness will be missed dearly by all who knew him. Services will be held Saturday February 20th at 2:00 pm., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1615 Morse & Ave. Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's memory to Habitat for Humanity, 819 North 10 Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.
