Lugo, Jr., Felipe "Phil"

Lugo Jr., Felipe (Phil), 60, of San Clemente, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 16, 2016, after a valiant battle against Alzheimer's Disease. He was the son of Felipe and Raquel Lugo.

Phil Lugo was born in New York, New York on December 19, 1955. Phil graduated from Rutgers University in June of 1973. He was later commissioned as a 1st Lt. in the United States Marine Corps in July of 1977 and was assigned to the Camp Pendleton Military Police Battalion. After an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Phil entered the California Highway Patrol Academy on January 12, 1981. After graduating from the Academy on May 28th, 1981, Phil was assigned to the Capistrano Area office. He promoted to Sergeant on April 1st, 1988. Phil received the Medal of Valor in 1999 for his bravery, courage, and gallantry in saving a woman's life attempting to commit suicide on a freeway overpass. During his career, he unselfishly served his community with great integrity and distinction. Phil retired on December 31, 2011 after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife Teresa Lugo of 36 years; two daughters, Ricci Chila (Matt) and Lindsay Eggen (Mike); four grandchildren, Cooper, Cash, Cade, Olivia, and a baby granddaughter due September 1st. He is also survived by his mother, Raquel Lugo and sister, Dorinda Lugo. He was preceded in death by his father, Felipe Lugo.

A Celebration of Phil's life will be held on Friday, July 29th at 3:00 PM at the Capo Beach Church, 25975 Domingo Avenue, Capistrano Beach, CA 92624. A private graveside burial will be held August 2nd at 11:00 AM at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. Lesneski Mortuary is entrusted with services.
