Tributes for

Franklin, Scott E.

October 21, 1931 - June 1, 2017
Scott E. Franklin, beloved husband, father and friend, passed away in Santa Barbara at the age of 85. Scott was born in Los Angeles to Alexander and Genevieve Franklin. Scott grew up at an exciting time in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. His family was involved in the movie industry and his stories of vacations in Yosemite and Lake Tahoe became the basis of the love of the natural world for all his family. After graduating from San Fernando High in 1949, Scott married his high school sweetheart Antonette Carlo in 1950. Scott was a proud veteran of the Air Force and Los Angeles County Fire Department. When he wasn't wearing USAF and LAFD ball caps and t-shirts, he would dress up in a Tommy Bahama shirt. Scott was most proud of his service with LAFD and was known in the last few years with the department as Rx 1, referring to his development of their prescribed burn program (a program that is known today for having saved hundreds of homes from wildfire). He proudly served LAFD Local 1014 for many years. Scott had a strong commitment to community service having been a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and was devoted to the Catholic Church. Scott served as Chairman of the State Water Commission in the 1970s having been appointed by Governor Jerry Brown. Scott's love of the outdoors led his family on many memorable vacations. Trips to Canada, Yellowstone, Zion and throughout California were the envy of other neighborhood kids. The best times of all were spent at the cabin in Fallbrook where the kids passed summer days swimming, hiking and exploring. He put his family above all else. Scott was preceded in death by his son Terry Franklin. He is survived by his wife Antonette, brother Don, son Tom (Leslie), son John (Brandi), daughter Cindy (Rick), son Scott Jr., grandchildren Peter, AJ, Terry, Cassie, Jacob, Blake, Randi, Kelli, and Tessa, and great-grandchildren Opal, Bronson, Ava, and Lilly.
