Kathleen Brigid Callanan,PHD, born in Los Angeles, January 24, 1947, the first of five daughters to the late George and Maxine Callanan. Attended St. Brendan Grammar School, Marlborough High School (1964), Gonzaga University, Santa Clara University (Bachelor of Arts Sociology1968), California State University of Los Angeles (Masters of Arts in Social Science 1969), Claremont Graduate School (Doctorate of Philosophy in Government with emphasis on American Government, Public Administration and Administrative Law1976).

Her professional experience started at the family business, Callanan Mortuary in Hollywood. She had a long history of positions in public relations, social services, and teaching, prior to moving to Sacramento. There she began her career for California State Government as,
Executive Officer California State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers (1979-1983), Executive Officer of California
State Board of Behavioral Science (1985-1994),
Deputy Director of State Council on Developmental Disabilities (1994-1997)

Beloved sister to Maureen (Bill) Hollingsworth, Peggy (John) Williams, Eileen (Tom) McDonald, and Bridget Callanan (Gerry Loughman). Loving aunt to Michaela (Dan) O’Melveny, Brady Hollingsworth, Devon (Sean) Mantucca, Kellie (Tim) Klein, Johnny, Taylor (Jamie) and Dodge (Ann) Williams, Hunter, Katie and Maureen McDonald, the late Brian Loughman, Conor and fiancé, Ama Boah and Anne Loughman; Proud great aunt to Sam, Claire, Meg, John & Joe O’Melveny, Sophia, Gianna & Matthew Mantucca, Cayden, Charley & Cash Klein, Wyatt & Faith, Dodge Jr. & George Williams; Godmother of Richard Berta of Manhattan, NY; Cherished bridge buddies, and dear friends. Last but not least she was a loving mother to her dog Mickey, who preceded her in death 2 months ago.

Kathy moved to Ventura in 2001 to be closer to family and volunteered her time grant writing for non-profit aiding brain injury patients. Kathy retired in San Clemente 2014.

Celebration of life services will be held at noon July 23,
Christ Lutheran Church, 35522 Camino Capistrano, San Clemente, CA 92672. Reception to follow
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathy’s memory to Shriners. She had a special place in her heart for Shriners, who are and continue to be so impactful & life changing to her great niece Gianna Mantucca; Shriners for Children Medical Center, Attn.
