Beddows, Harold

Harold Raymond Beddows, 92, of Fullerton, CA, died on October 11, 2014. He was born on 7/29/22 in Hamilton, Canada, the son of Harold and Emily Beddows. His family immigrated to Erie, PA and Hal became a citizen in 1931. He was a 1943 graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, and served aboard numerous merchant ships during WWII. Following the war, he attended Thiel College in Greenville, PA where he earned his BA. A few years later he earned his Masters at USC (go Trojans!). Harold married the love of his life, Mary Francis (Kerr) in Erie, PA in 1948. They moved to CA in 1950 where Hal began his life-long teaching career at Hemet HS, then at Fullerton HS, and then as an instructor at Fullerton College until his retirement in 1991. Hal had a heart of gold and was loved and liked by all who knew him. He was a religious man with a strong moral compass. He believed one's soul is the well-spring that controls the body and mind to love, honor and respect others. He lived by the Golden Rule of treating one another as you would wish to be treated. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Harold is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Marybeth (Joe) Iaria, Tom (Carmen), Nancy (Paul) Erickson, and Chuck; grandchildren, Chris (Angie) Iaria, Nick Iaria, Vanessa (Dave) Christianson, Erin Beddows, Ian Beddows, Jason Erickson, Alex Erickson, Shawn Erickson, Charlie Beddows and Jacob Beddows. Hal is also survived by his brother, Carlton; and wife, Betty. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McAulay and Wallace Mortuary, Fullerton. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, at the First Lutheran Church of Fullerton at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Loma Vista Memorial Park.
